About the adults:
A Mastiff is a very large dog. Males can weigh from 170 to 270 and a female can weigh from 140 to 240. They are a very large breed but are known as the "Gentle Giants" of the dog world. They especially love children and are very good with children. They make very good house pets even with their large size. They do not constantly drool as some people think. But they do drool when they eat or drink or when they see you eat. They can become protective if they feel that their family is being threatened. Mastiffs should be well socialized because of their size and trained at an early age. Mastiffs can live 10 or more years if they have proper care and not exposed to severe weather (hot or cold). The first year of their life they eat 2 to 3 times a day. After the first year they will eat less but continue to grow until they reach maturity at about 3 years old. |
